purpleparadox: (Feeling fannish)
I was wandering around on Facebook, seeing if anyone else from my high school graduating class had joined recently, and I remembered how I was picked on for liking Sailor Moon. This was back in the days when anime was new, and cartoons were still regarded as only for kids. (I think South Park had just come out, the first 'adult' cartoon I remember hearing about) I remember being ashamed for liking Sailor Moon, but it didn't stop me from liking it.

And as the years went by, Sailor Moon got more popular, and I got more excited, and happier, to be a Sailor Moon fan. I'd been there since almost the beginning, and now it was popular. And here I was, liking something popular. It was an interesting sort of high - sticking with something so long, no matter what people thought, no matter how I got picked on, and now it's actually cool to like it.

I wonder if any other older Sailor Moon fans experienced this. If they got picked on when they were in school for loving the show, and how they felt when it got popular.

I also realized that since 1997, not a day has gone by without either seeing something Sailor Moon related, or mentioning Sailor Moon, or something like that. And here my mom thought I'd grow out of it!

So I'm crossposting here and on LJ. Yergh. I thought I'd quit for good, but I guess not.

I'm a moderator over at [livejournal.com profile] sailormoonfans2, which is one of the reasons I figured I'd come back to LJ. I can't leave everyone over there wondering what I'm really up to, can I? (Not like I'm up to much of anything besides teaching.)

Speaking of teaching, I got a set of stamps to use when grading my students' work. (Amusingly enough, it's the same exact set that my mentor teacher has!) I'm excited, I can't wait for them to come in the mail. I also can't believe that I'm almost halfway through student teaching at Madrid-Waddington. I really don't want to leave. With doing my 100 hour observations there, and student teaching as well, I've become really attached to the school. I want to work there when I'm a fully certified teacher. I want to have my own classroom there, and be surrounded by friendly teachers and well behaved students.

Tomorrow I'm going to watch Sailor Moon. Not sure what season I'm going to watch. It's sad- I never have actually watched to the end of S and SuperS. I know what happens, of course, but I've only seen about half of S and five or so episodes of SuperS. I'm a horrible Sailor Moon fan, I know.

Bryan is snoring next to me, and it's a little annoying. ^_^;;;

So, apparently all the student workers at Financial Aid got notices to not play games on the computers at work or we'll be fired. So you know what the other two students do? Play games. I probably wouldn't have even been included in that letter if I hadn't played Sorority Life on Facebook that once at work. Oi vey.

Anyhow, I had HORRIBLE allergies yesterday. So horrible that I took some allergy medicine when I got home and was out like a light by 6 pm. YEEP. I slept 11 hours!

Tonight I'm going to watch Amanda perform at Open Mic Night at the coffee house. Oh man, it'll be like I was back in college again, watching Seth perform his emo goth depressed music. Apparently Amanda watched Seth too, when she went to college here. It's a pity that she graduated JUST before I got here, but oh well- we're friends now, and that works for me.

I need to take new pictures of my Sailor Moon collection and post them in [community profile] sailormoon at some point. I've added a lot of new things to my collection, and I like being able to look at all the bits and pieces in one picture and say "Holy cow, I have a LOT!" My collection's nowhere near as big as it used to be, but it's getting there. I sure have added a lot of random stuff to it, that's for sure- I just got a Sailor Moon picnic mat in the mail yesterday (I'm going to use it as a poster), and I have a set of drinking glasses too. Once I get the 11 inch older style Venus, Mars, and Mercury dolls, and the Crescent Moon Wand, I think I'll be satisfied for a while. :D

I really should make my Chibiusa rag doll a new school uniform.

Holy shit. I have so much work to do for my classes it's not even funny. Ugh. Why did I think working full time while taking summer classes was a good idea?

Meanwhile, I have a Myspace again- sorta. There's not much there. http://www.myspace.com/beebee047 is the link, in case any of you want to add me. I've only got one friend so far. :P

Back to classes, at least I know I got a 4.0 in Integrating the Arts. Dr. Chadwick complemented our group highly, and I got a 4.0 in her other class, so I know I'll do fine with this last class. And with Social Studies, I have half the work done already - I've got the opportunity to make it better, though, so I'm going to take it and work hard to get a 4.0 in this class as well. I'm having issues keeping up with everything that's going on with Diversity in the Classroom, but I'm doing well regardless. Online classes are hard.

I'm dealing with some... emotional issues lately. I'm not going to get into them- the more I talk about them, the worse it gets.

I've added some more stuff to my Sailor Moon collection. My cheap eBay dolls got here last week, and I've got a few more things coming soon - a new Cutie Moon Rod, and two six inch dolls - old style Sailor Moon and Princess Serenity. I'm going to take a picture or two or six of my collection soon, and post them to [community profile] sailormoon to share with everyone, and get the community moving.

Oh, and I think I'm going to just close up shop over at LJ, and read only the communities and friends I really pay attention to. I find myself more often than not just skimming everything over there.

Ohhh man.

There is no better way to wake up than by finding out you won three out of the 5 auctions you bid on over at eBay, and all three items didn't make it up past $5.

AND all three items were old school Sailor Moon dolls, the little six inchers, STILL IN BOXES! I just about peed myself when I saw I got Rini for $1.25. Now all I need is tiny Jupiter, tiny Venus, and tiny long face Moon. (I used to have Patty's old long face Moon, but I'm not sure what happened to her, and that makes me sad.) I think Tux has the same face for both doll runs, so I won't hunt an old version of him down.

And in somewhat unrelated news, I got a fancy new sewing machine. One with a computer in it. And 87 programmed stitches. I sewed a leafy vine design into a piece of fabric. Just by poking some buttons. It was awesome. :D

So, I wonder how busy it's going to get on Dreamwidth when open beta starts tonight. I'm hoping for a party! I know I've got a lot of people over on [livejournal.com profile] sailormoonfans wanting invite codes, and hopefully they'll make their way over to [community profile] sailormoon here. I've been waiting for more people to get here to hopefully make the community more active. I'm going to go spruce things up a bit there in anticipation of open beta. :D

I went in to 'observe' Mrs. Burnett's 2nd grade class, for the second-to-last time. I'm really going to miss those kids- Sidney gave me a big hug today when Mrs. Burnett said I was going to lead Spelling Bingo. They were generally pretty happy today, which is good. They even earned extra recess! I'm sad that next Monday will be my last observation day. I'll get to see the kids around the school, but it won't be the same - they'll be grown up 3rd graders.

Brittany and I drove home with the windows down and music blasting. I can't wait until I get my own car and I can have stuff like Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen blasting out my windows. I get the feeling Brittany only tolerates me because I need a ride, and I feel bad for needing a ride. I just wish we could be friends. I don't have many friends anymore, let alone friends in grad school.

The 15 minutes I spent outside today burnt my face a bit. Time to break out the sunscreen and hats again.

Holy crap my mom is on Facebook.

Not that she knows what to do with it now that she's got it, heheh. Jo set her up with it when she was visiting Mom today, and Ruth and I had the same reaction - "Holy shit, how did Mom end up on Facebook?" XD

In other news, I punch embroidered. A lot. And watched Sailor Moon. A lot. And tried to nap. And yelled at the broken internet. (Apparently the entire internet was having issues in Potsdam - the computer lab had no internet for the first hour of Bryan's shift.)

Bryan made peanut butter bread. It smells really good.

I think that's it from me today- I'm gonna go get the coffee pot set up for tomorrow morning's coffee, that way there's no issues like Thursday, where I poured the water into the filter basket instead of into the water tank. Oops. Besides, I'm going to need the extra caffeine, it'll be my first time with my second graders in a LONG time. Hooray for spring break and all that crap. Ugh. I don't want the week to start.
purpleparadox: (Two different people)
I swear, there must be some subliminal messages in Sailor Moon. The more I watch it, the more I want to watch. Ugh. And it's been so long since I've watched further than the end of the original series that I've forgotten half of what's going on. I've even been watching the dub, too - I never really got the chance to see the last 17 episodes of Sailor Moon R dubbed, and it's amazing how the quality of the show changed. Minako's misinterpretations of common sayings are brought in! Luna makes fun of Artemis! (granted, it's still in her British nanny voice... although somehow that makes it even more funny) However, I want to punch Emerald. Hard. I swear, she's channeling Kodachi Kuno from Ranma 1/2 with that retarded laugh, or the girl version of Zoicite they have for the dub. *goes to check Anime News Network's Encyclopedia* Oh. Wait. HAHAHAH. No wonder she sounds like Zoicite, and no wonder I want to punch them both. THEY HAVE THE SAME VOICE.

Coulda sworn that Emerald's voice actor was the same as Kodachi, the laugh is almost IDENTICAL.

Okay, I'm going to stop going on and on about voice actors before I start complaining about how Sailor Mars's voice actress (Emilie Barlow) in the end of the R dub ended up doing Venus for S and SuperS. She was a great Mars! Why'd she quit?

Oh wait. It's because Katie Griffin came back to do Mars. Oh god. I could go on and on and ON about voice actors.

I am going to shut up now. ^_^;;
purpleparadox: (feeling fannish)
Either that, or it's just that I'm discovering more amazing things about him. Like how he actually LIKES to watch Sailor Moon. Even the dub, which I throw on while I punch embroider so I can listen to what's going on without actually watching. And we watched Interstella 5555 tonight, the anime movie that's set to Daft Punk's Discovery, and he liked it. HE LIKED IT. He doesn't usually like my music- he gets cranky when I put on Spock's Beard ("it's too repetitive!"), and he thinks ELO is annoying, so to find out that I've successfully made him a fan of Daft Punk is awesome. :D

I have to post pictures of the Sailor Moon embroidery I'm working on. It's really detailed and it looks amazing so far.

I got my journal looking snazzy. Last time I tried this, last night, it didn't turn out quite right. I like this. This is nice. And it's an excuse for me to post, haha.

I am SO VERY TIRED. I would love to curl up in bed and sleep.

Oh, haha, I got something fun in the mail today. I was originally thinking of turning it into pillow fabric, but once I opened the box my inner fangirl, circa 1997, squealed in delight and decided not to use this for pillow fodder.

Take a peek! )
purpleparadox: (sparkle sparkle!)
I fiddled with the colors on the theme I'm using, and now my journal's a color I don't mind sticking with until more styles pop up. I'm so excited that I get to be a part of something like this so early in its development - I mean, Livejournal was already well established when I started over there, so while it was new to me, it wasn't new to everyone else, yanno?

I cranked out a Sailor Moon pillow already this morning, and had some yummy pancakes and bacon. Next is a shower, and then grocery shopping. I'll do a proper introductory post later, so those of you who just friended me (hi everyone! :D) will know more about me besides the fact that I like Sailor Moon and pancakes. :P
